Visitors and security

We take steps to keep our hospital campus and housing safe so our patients and families can focus on healing. Our campus is gated for safety. Everyone is required to check in at the gate before entering campus.

Identification

  • Your child must wear their patient ID armband while in the hospital.
  • Ask for identification if you do not recognize a staff member.
  • Keep children and guests with you at all times.

Patient and family ID badges

To increase campus security and comfort, we issue patient and family ID badges to patients and families on campus and in St. Jude housing.

These badges can:

  • Help staff quickly identify patients and family members
  • Reduce the risk of unauthorized entry to certain areas, such as operating rooms or research labs
  • Reduce the risk of someone pretending to be a patient or family member

Daily routines

Your first visit may take longer than usual as the staff needs to gather information to help care for and treat your child.

For most patients, your daily routine will include:

  1. Check in at Patient Registration so your child can receive an identification (ID) armband. They must keep this on their arm until they leave the hospital for the day.
  2. You will get a schedule card with your child’s appointment schedule for that day.
  3. Your child may then go to Pre-Clinic Assessment.
  4. Check in with the clinic patient representative, who will tell the clinic that you have arrived.
  5. Have a check-up with a clinical care team member.
  6. Get treatment.
