Special transport requests
If a patient has urgent, acute needs after regular St. Jude hours, and requires an unscheduled visit, they should call the Infusion Center at 901-595-2441 before going there.
The Infusion Center will assess the patient’s needs.
If the patient is told to come to the Infusion Center, the nurse can set up transportation for the patient.
After hours, patients who do not have an emergency can also call Transportation Dispatch, 901-595-4856, for transportation.
If the situation is an emergency, the Infusion Center may advise that a patient go directly to a local hospital emergency room.
Note that St. Jude does not have an emergency room.
Patients should arrange their transportation to the emergency room themselves, or call 911.
Note: If your child is in isolation, do not take the regular St. Jude shuttles. Please schedule your shuttle ride with Patient Services at 901-595-4501.
After your child is accepted as a patient, St. Jude offers help with travel plans and costs for your family. St. Jude helps patients travel to and from Memphis for planned treatments and checkups. If you live:

- More than 35 miles from St. Jude: We will arrange bus or rail travel, or we will pay for auto mileage.
- 50 or more miles from St. Jude: We will assist with the cost of a rental car; arrange bus or rail travel; or pay for auto mileage.
- More than 250 miles from St. Jude: We will arrange for air, bus, or rail travel; pay for auto mileage; or assist with the cost of a rental car.
You must request all help with travel in advance. You can request reimbursement for auto mileage after you arrive.
Free housing close by campus is available for many families who travel to St. Jude for treatment.
If your child’s treatment requires an overnight stay, and you live more than 35 miles from St. Jude, you may be able to stay at one of these St. Jude housing facilities:
As soon as you get your child’s next appointment schedule, call Patient Services at 901-595-4501 to reserve lodging. Housing placements are based on length of stay, medical needs, and what housing is available at that time.
