Child Life Opportunities for Students

Child Life internship

The child life internship program is for college seniors, master’s degree students, or college graduates with backgrounds and experience in child development, education, psychology, or related fields. Applicants must have completed the coursework required to become a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) to be eligible candidates.

Child Life practicum

Child Life practicum students help us to fulfill the mission of St. Jude as they begin their careers gaining experience, knowledge, and confidence as child life professionals. At this time, we do NOT plan to offer pre-internship experiences for Spring, Summer, or Fall 2024. Updated changes and updates will be posted February 2025.

Child Life 101

The St. Jude Child Life Program offers a half-day educational session on the child life role in a hospital setting for current and future child life students.

Child Life 101 is currently postponed indefinitely. We anticipate that Child Life 101 will return. We continue to evaluate plans and will provide updates.

Commonly asked questions about the child life profession

Due to the high volume of requests to interview a child life specialist for college classes, we have created these frequently asked questions to provide the timeliest responses to as many students as possible.
