St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children.
The mission of the St. Jude Comprehensive Cancer Center (SJCCC) is to advance cures for pediatric cancer through research and treatment. We are the nation’s only NCI-designated Cancer Center dedicated exclusively to pediatric cancer.
Our designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center reflects leading excellence in laboratory, clinical and survivorship research, as well as leadership in education and community outreach. The center has received the highest possible score of “exceptional” in its two most recent NCI reviews.
Director Charles W. M. Roberts, MD, PhD, a long-standing advocate of team science, leads the Center with a strong vision: To bring about a future in which every child with cancer can look forward to a long and healthy life. The Center aims to improve outcomes and understanding of pediatric cancer to benefit patients and survivors in our catchment area, and to extend these findings to the nation and the world.

NCI-designation as a comprehensive cancer center is a prestigious recognition awarded by the National Cancer Institute to institutions that demonstrate excellence in cancer research, treatment, prevention, and education. These centers are at the forefront of scientific discovery, translating cutting-edge research into advanced clinical care. They offer patients access to the latest therapies and clinical trials not widely available elsewhere. NCI-designated centers also play a crucial role in training the next generation of cancer researchers and clinicians, ensuring a continued commitment to reducing the burden of cancer through innovation and comprehensive care.
St. Jude investigators have the freedom to focus on making big discoveries, backed by extraordinary resources and support teams. We are always looking for highly motivated scientists and engineers with passion and talent to join us!
