Dr. Yamashita received his MD from the University of Tokyo in 2008 and earned his PhD from Keio University School of Medicine in 2014 in the laboratory of Toshio Suda, MD. He then completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Emmanuelle Passegué, PhD, at UCSF and Columbia University. In 2019, he became an Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo and focused on the roles of programmed cell death pathways in HSC integrity.
Dr. Yamashita joined St. Jude in 2024 as an Assistant Member of the Department of Hematology where he continues to study cell death and HSCs. He has expanded his research to understand how survival and elimination are regulated at the HSC level and, ultimately, how these findings can be translated into novel therapies for blood disorders.
