About the Hub

SCIR comprises imaging experts who are dedicated to translation of biomedical imaging technology into clinical and research programs that advance the St. Jude mission.  The faculty and staff have diverse expertise and interests, and focus on innovation in the acquisition, processing, and modeling of biomedical images to capture critical information about the structure and function of biological systems.

The SCIR conducts collaborative research with investigators from nearly every major institutional and cancer center program to address major challenges in diagnosis (biology, staging), treatment (response, toxicity), and long-term survival (late effects, remediation) of most St. Jude patients.

Structural and Connectivity Imaging Research Hub

Mission and objectives

The mission of this resource is to provide expert advice and technological and experimental support for all St. Jude investigators wanting to use quantitative structural imaging approaches of the central nervous system from patients to drive or complement specific research objectives. Dr. Reddick, Interim Director, provides a central point of contact, organization, and prioritization for collaborative projects. Support by the SCIR staff is available throughout the entire research process, from planning the initial study design to implementation and execution of the study, to analyzing and interpreting results, and grant and publication preparation. The SCIR maintains the following objectives:

  • Increase the number and quality of extramural grant applications using patient derived quantitative structural data of the central nervous system
  • Increase the number and impact of peer reviewed publications incorporating quantitative structural imaging data
  • Increase the breadth, number, and quality of intra- and inter-departmental research collaborations
  • Increase customer satisfaction with collaborations
