About M. Asunción Mejías

Dr. Mejias received her medical degree from the University of Malaga in Malaga, Spain. She then completed a pediatric residency at Hospital Infantil Universitario Gregorio in Madrid, Spain, as well as a virology postdoctoral fellowship and pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. 

In addition to her medical degree, Dr. Mejias also holds a PhD in virology from the University of Malaga and a Master of Science degree in clinical sciences from UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Mejias joined St. Jude in 2023 as a member of the Department of Infectious Diseases, and she is currently the Medical Director of Clinical Research for that department. Her research interests include viral respiratory infections, namely RSV, and the subsequent immune response to those infections, both acutely and long-term. In addition, her lab is interested in defining immune parameters associated with the acute morbidity and long-term sequelae in infants with congenital cytomegalovirus.
