The Scientific Editing Department assists St. Jude investigators in creating effective journal articles, grant applications, book chapters, poster presentations, and clinical protocols. Our service is based on the premise that well written, carefully edited manuscripts and grant applications fare better in the review process, thus improving the odds of prompt, high-impact publication and successful grant funding. Scientific Editing services are available to all St. Jude investigators and are free of charge.
Scientific Editing provides editing services (initial, revision, or resubmission) for grant applications, manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, treatment protocols and consent statements, review articles, abstracts, and poster and slide presentations. The editors also serve as publication consultants and facilitators.
Workshops on writing and publication strategy are available. Researchers or staff members interested in scheduling workshops should call the director of Scientific Editing to discuss topics.
St. Jude researchers and staff members are welcome to contact Scientific Editing by telephone or e-mail for answers to questions about grammar, style, publication strategy, dealing with journals, responding to reviewers’ comments, writing peer reviews, etc.
Scientific Editing offers on the St. Jude Intranet an electronic resource called Writing Grant Applications. This site offers advice and cut-and-paste and read-only versions of successful grant applications that can guide grant writers in creating their own funding applications.
