About Charles O. Rock

Dr. Charles Rock led a laboratory studying lipid metabolism and infectious diseases for decades. After receiving his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Tennessee at Oak Ridge, Rock joined St. Jude and was a member of the St. Jude Faculty in the Department of Host-Microbe Interactions. Over the past 35 years, his research focused on lipid metabolism in bacteria, a focus which he continued in his work at St. Jude. Rock was a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in recognition of his work and contribution to our understanding of bacteria and antibacterial drug discovery. Dr. Charles O. Rock passed away in September of 2023.
