About Stephen Gottschalk

Dr. Stephen Gottschalk is a pediatric oncologist, who is interested in hematopoietic cell transplantation and cell-based immunotherapies. Before joining St. Jude in 2017 as Chair of the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, he was a member of the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy and Texas Children’s Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine. He actively conducts investigator-initiated early phase clinical studies, and in the laboratory oversees a team of MD and PhD researchers working on peer-reviewed research projects focused on overcoming current limitations of adoptive cell therapies for cancer.

He co-leads the translational immuno-oncology and immunotherapy initiative at St. Jude, and is committed to training the next generation of scientists and academic physicians. His research has been NIH/NCI funded since 2002, and he was elected into the American Society of Clinical Investigation in 2015 for his contributions to the field of cell-based immunotherapies.
