Brendan Morrow was born and raised in the Memphis area and, as such, has always been familiar with the mission of St. Jude. His first exposure to the hospital came through several childhood friends who were patients at St. Jude. The experiences he shared with them drove his pursuit of a career in science, and in that journey, he has always hoped he would find his way back to Memphis and St. Jude.
Morrow earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2022 from Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss. During this time, he conducted research in the lab of Florencia Meyer, PhD, where he worked to understand better how environmental conditions affect microbial growth related to Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) in an effort to find potential new therapies that can be used in the treatment and prevention of BRD. Morrow continued his studies at MSU, earning a master’s degree in agricultural life sciences with a concentration in biochemistry in 2023. His work in veterinary microbiology coupled with a fascination with human diseases inspired him to continue his education at the St. Jude Graduate School. He believes this is the next step in his journey to becoming an independent researcher focused on studying infectious diseases.
