Aimée Kissou, MD

As a pediatrician, Aimée Kissou has always been interested by all aspects of child health. Her constant concern to contribute to the training of the next generation of top-quality practitioners led her to embark on a parallel career as a teacher. Her interest in pediatric oncology stemmed from the constatation of an almost total lack of care for children with cancer in Bobo-Dioulasso, when she was posted in 2010 at the Sourô SANOU University Hospital.

Kissou obtained her Medical Degree from the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) in 2005. She then completed a specialization in Pediatrics at the Cheikh Anta Diop University with fellowship in Dakar’s Hospitals in Senegal. She also holds an Inter-University Diploma in Vaccinology obtained from the Polytechnic University of Bobo-Dioulasso in 2012. A grant from the Groupe Franco-Africain d'oncologie pédiatrique”(GFAOP) enabled her to train in Rabat, Morocco, from which she graduated with the University Diploma of Pediatric Oncology in 2017.

In the field of research, she successfully participated in the Short Course in Clinical Research and Evidence-based Medicine (SCREM) at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp, Belgium, in 2015, thanks to a grant.

Kissou is currently the head of the Department of Pediatrics in her hospital where she recently erected the third Pediatric Oncology Unit of the country in 2019. She is also a full professor at Bobo-Dioulasso's only medical school.

Her research focuses on various aspects of children's health, with a particular emphasis on non-communicable diseases such as childhood cancer, which are still little covered by her country's policies.

Kissou is joining the Master’s in Global Child Health program in order to be a more effective advocate for the interests of sick children in general. This master’s degree is for her an opportunity to deepen her knowledge in public health to better contribute for children health, not only at the level of care, but also at decision-making level.
