Lane Hartman had a strong interest in medicine throughout childhood but was introduced to chemistry in high school and quickly realized his passion for chemical research. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics from Saint Louis University. While at SLU, he worked under the direction of Marv Meyers to develop next generation antiparasitics to treat Cryptosporidium infection in immunocompromised populations. In addition to research, Hartman was recognized as the St. Louis Region ACS Outstanding Junior in Chemistry. He also worked as a teaching assistant for Calculus I and Intermediate Algebra.
In 2023, Hartman was selected to participate in St. Jude’s Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) program, where he worked with Daniel Blair to increase access to drug-like small molecules through automated synthetic platforms. This experience solidified his desire to complete a PhD where he would be able to leverage chemical research to gain understanding of biological processes.
Hartman is looking forward to taking advantage of the collaborative nature of the St. Jude Graduate School to use chemical tools to gain a deeper understanding of cancer biology.
