Korede Akindele , BH

Korede Akindele is a passionate advocate for childhood cancer and child health policies. He works as the Head of Programs at The Dorcas Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization in Nigeria that aims to improve access to care and survival outcomes for children with cancer.

Korede is also an active member of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), where he serves on the Board of Directors and is the Chair of the Young SIOP Network (YSN). In this role, he coordinates and represents the interests of SIOP members under 40 years working in pediatric oncology. He is a member of the Nigeria Society of Pediatric Oncology (NISPO), the Nigeria Cancer Society (NCS), and the Nigeria Palliative and Hospice Care and is committed to bringing positive change to the healthcare landscape in Nigeria.

A business administration and management graduate who delivers profitable solutions that fuel growth and foster sustainable organizational development, Korede has over 14 years of solid professional experience in diverse sectors, including, non-profit organization management, healthcare, finance, and communication.

Korede's commitment to global cancer improvement is evidenced by his deep participation in national and international education and training programs that have shaped his advocacy efforts and capacity for global child health. His collaborative approach with pediatric oncology professionals in Nigeria and worldwide has contributed to more individualized and effective care for young cancer patients and his efforts have not only brought national attention to childhood cancer in Nigeria but have also garnered global recognition.

In recognition of his exceptional dedication and contributions to childhood cancer and global childhood, Korede has earned several awards, including Advocate of the Year and the Nigeria Oncology Award (2020-2021). 

At the heart of his work lies a powerful mantra: "Because that child must live." This guiding principle fuels his decision-making, ensuring that the urgency of saving young lives drives every effort made.

Outside of his advocacy and policy implementation work, Korede is an avid traveller and an enthusiastic reader, constantly seeking new challenges and thrilling adventures.

"I am particularly interested in exploring the intersections of childhood cancer and global health with broader health disparities, seeking innovative solutions that transcend geographical boundaries, and I am confident that the Master’s in Global Child Health program at St. Jude is the optimal pathway for me to achieve these goals. The interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum, coupled with the program's emphasis on research, will provide me with the tools to navigate complex global health challenges. I am optimistic.”
