On the heels of fulfilling a $1 million pledge to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® two years ahead of schedule, professional pharmacy fraternity Phi Delta Chi is ready to do it again. The organization plans to raise an additional $1 million for St. Jude by 2029, a commitment that will give Phi Delta Chi naming rights to the Discovery Wall on the 5th floor of the Kay Research and Care Center at St. Jude.
Phi Delta Chi chapter and alumni raise funds for the families of St. Jude through their signature Prescriptions for Hope donation email campaign as well as participating in St. Jude Walk/Run events across the nation each September during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
“We are incredibly grateful for Phi Delta Chi’s 27-year partnership with St. Jude and its continued commitment that helps expand research and treatment for difficult to cure cancers,” said Richard C. Shadyac Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Phil Delta Chi’s deeply-rooted commitment and new $1 million pledge help ensure St. Jude also delivers on global initiatives such as providing lifesaving cancer drugs free of charge to children in need worldwide.”
“The most important piece of the St. Jude mission to me is hope,” said Kenny Walkup, Executive Director of Phi Delta Chi. “St. Jude gives families and children hope for tomorrow, the next week and next years for a life of normalcy and we are excited to continue being a part of making that hope a reality.”
Phi Delta Chi and St. Jude have a long history, with Phi Delta Chi raising $200,000 in 2009 for St. Jude and getting naming rights to the Outpatient Pharmacy on campus. Following that achievement, the Phi Delta Chi Executive Council announced in 2010 a $1 million commitment for naming rights of an inpatient room and adjoining parent room in the Patient Care Center, a goal achieved four years early in 2020. Most recently, in August 2022 Phi Delta Chi completed a $1 million pledge for the naming rights to the Radiation Oncology Recovery Suite in the Chili’s Care Center at St. Jude.
Generous donations from partners such as Phi Delta Chi help ensure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live.
