St. Jude Hope in the Harbor honors patient’s legacy

St. Jude supporters Chris Tussing, Laura Kemp, Robert Weilminster, Bosco Todorovich and event co–chair Donna Todorovich enjoy St. Jude Hope in the Harbor.

For the sixth year, hundreds of people gathered in Baltimore to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and to celebrate the life of a local teenager who fought brain cancer at St. Jude.

About 400 people attended the sixth annual St. Jude Hope in the Harbor event, held April 9 at the American Visionary Art Museum, and raised more than $340,000 for the hospital. Hope in the Harbor has raised more than $1.6 million over the years.

The event honors St. Jude patient Keeley. Although she lost her cancer battle in 2012, her legacy —and her positive attitude in the face of severe illness—lives on in the Baltimore community, especially through Hope in the Harbor. She and her mother, Judi, founded the event in 2010.

This year, Hope in the Harbor featured 24 of Baltimore’s finest restaurants and chefs, who set up tasting stations for guests to enjoy. Live and silent auctions contributed to the overall fundraising total. The live auction items headlined the event and included a VIP concert experience and wine tasting with the band, Train, a luxury vacation in the Bahamas and a behind–the–scenes tour and lunch at the Baltimore Ravens practice center, called “the castle.”

Guests also heard from the mother of a healthy, 15–year–old Maryland girl, who came to St. Jude for treatment when she was 3. The mother told her family’s story of hope and thanked guests for their support of St. Jude.

St. Jude Hope in the Harbor was presented by LiUNA. Event sponsors included Allegis Group Foundation, Altus Partners, BAYADA Home Health Care, BB&T, Brown Advisory, Chase, Columbia Benefits Services, Creig Northrop Real Estate of Long & Foster, Donovan & Rainie LLC, Eckert Seamans, Ellin & Tucker, Erickson Living, FCE Benefits, First Mariner Bank, Gordon Feinblatt, GP Strategies Inc., Howard County Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Kelly Benefit Strategies, Master Security, Maxim Healthcare, Miles & Stockbridge, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Priority 1 Auto Group, Silberstein Insurance Group, Susquehanna Bank, ULLICO, United Rentals, US Trust Wealth Advisory, Wells Fargo, Whiteford, Taylor & Preston and Willis of Maryland.
