"St. Jude is a place that has become part of my life, and that's why I always have it with me," she said.

It all started one February morning in 2002. Lorena remembers waking up excited to get to work early. At the time, she was a radio host and was about to participate in her first radiothon, an experience that filled her heart because it was a way to support the mission of St. Jude.

"For me, getting to know St. Jude and what they do seemed incredible because I had never known a hospital where families never receive a bill for treatment," Lorena said.

After the radio event, she joined the committee responsible for organizing other St. Jude activities in South Florida. From there, the idea for the first benefit gala in Miami was born. The event has been successfully held annually, with the participation of prominent Latin celebrities.

Over the years, Lorena had the opportunity to visit the research hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, to see up close how it operated. It was an experience that marked a turning point in her story with St. Jude.

"It was very impactful to learn about their scientific advances and that they share everything they discover with other hospitals. That's why I wanted to contribute and feel part of this mission," she said.

In addition to becoming a Partner of Hope, or a monthly donor to St. Jude, Lorena began supporting other events like the annual St. Jude Walk, although she admits that the radiothon remains one of her favorites "because of the opportunity to answer calls and tell people everything St. Jude does.”

At fundraising events, Lorena has met St. Jude patients who have become her inspiration to continue sharing her experience with others.

"Talking about St. Jude is talking about love and generosity, because it represents the hope of a child, a father, a mother, and for those of us who contribute, knowing that is the greatest joy."

Looking back on her 23 years of supporting the St. Jude mission, she can't help but get emotional thinking about all the unforgettable experiences she has had as a volunteer.

"I hope to spend many more years as part of this great family and being an ambassador and sharing the message of its founder, Danny Thomas, so that everyone knows about this hospital and so that no child dies of cancer," she said.
