About Ryan Dungey
Supercross champion Ryan Dungey founded the St. Jude Ride & 5K Run in 2012. Ryan lost his grandmother to cancer in 2005 and has since dedicated himself to the kids of St. Jude and to helping eliminate cancer.
In April 2018, Ryan was joined by fellow Monster Energy Supercross athletes for the "This Shirt Saves Lives" awareness and fundraising campaign, which raised over $106,000 for St. Jude.
Meet St. Jude Patient Gabe
Gabe has always loved riding his dirt bike. He was 6 years old when he received his first bike. “This was his way of life,” said his mom, Andrea. “His happiest moments have been racing.”
In early 2018, Gabe’s family learned had medulloblastoma, a type of brain cancer. In the months leading up to the diagnosis, Gabe lost his balance often and had started to fall.
After an MRI revealed a tumor, Gabe underwent surgery to remove it. His family then turned to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for his continuing treatment, which included radiation therapy and chemotherapy. “St. Jude has been amazing,” Andrea said. “They provided us with housing, transportation, food. It was such a stress reliever.”
Last September, Gabe had the opportunity to meet four-time Supercross champion Ryan Dungey when he visited St. Jude. “It was a dream come true for Gabe,” Andrea said. “Ryan is Gabe’s idol for dirt biking. To meet him was just amazing.”
Since they met, Gabe has had the opportunity to see Dungey several times at St. Jude-related events. “It’s just been so special,” said Andrea. “Ryan even mentioned that Gabe is his hero.”
