Why should I donate crypto?

Our society has entered a new era of financial technology and digital currency. Cryptocurrency donations can make a meaningful change for the children and families of St. Jude. Unlike other hospitals, the majority of our funding comes from individual donors.

We want to give prospective donors as many ways as possible to support our mission. With the increase of interest in the crypto ecosystem, we see crypto in philanthropy as a new and exciting way for donors to engage with our mission.

Additionally, donating bitcoin or other cryptocurrency can be a tax-efficient way to give to St. Jude.

Are crypto donations tax-deductible?

The IRS classifies a crypto donation as property, so your crypto donation is tax-deductible. A taxpayer who donates cryptocurrency directly to charity may be able to claim the full value of the cryptocurrency as a charitable deduction, reducing tax liability and avoiding capital gains taxes.

If you donate more than $500 in crypto and need St. Jude to acknowledge receipt of the gift on your IRS Form 8283, please contact us at cryptocurrency@stjude.org.

When you donate using our form, you will be prompted to enter and submit your email address to receive a tax receipt for your donation.

The St. Jude Federal Tax ID number (EIN) is 62-0646012. St. Jude is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization.

At St. Jude, your gift can impact the future, not only for our patients, but for children around the world. Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped raise the survival rate for children with cancer in the United States, where 4 out of 5 children survive cancer. In many countries, however, 1 out of 5 children who develop cancer will survive. We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer, no matter where they live.
