Mila was monitored through a St. Jude affiliate clinic near the family’s home, receiving blood transfusions as necessary, then referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “They knew what to do,” said her mom. “As soon as they got her diagnosis, they already had her treatment plan drawn out.”
Mila underwent months of chemotherapy at St. Jude for acute myeloid leukemia. Even on days she didn’t feel great, she was smiling and playing. “She just has one of those smiles, her whole face smiles,” said her mom. “You can’t help but fall in love with her.”
Mila loves dogs. Now that her cancer treatment is complete, she is back at home with her family, including the family pets.
“Anybody and everybody that contributes anything to this place, no matter if it’s a big business or the grandmother that donates once a month, they are changing people’s lives,” said Mila’s mom. “I can’t say enough how grateful we are to be here and that this place exists.”
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — so they can focus on helping their child live.
When you support St. Jude, you can help make cures possible for kids with cancer, like Mila. Together, we can save more lives.
