Moms Know Best: Beckett’s mom Tammie

Support St. Jude

Español | English

Tammie, a mom of four, understands the sacrifices moms make.

When her youngest, Beckett, was diagnosed with brain cancer at 3, Tammie made a sacrifice, taking him across the country to get the best treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital — and leaving her other children at home.

“All you want for Mother’s Day is a miracle for your baby, to go home to see your other babies, and for all of your kids to be together again,” Tammie said.

“While others are having a family brunch and getting flowers, you’re just trying to hold everyone and everything together to do what you need to do to keep your child alive. You don’t want tangible things. You want a cure.”

She’d have traded places with Beckett if she could. She’d have given her life for his.

Some sacrifices even moms can’t make.

Beckett finished eight months of treatment at St. Jude in November. Scans at his most recent checkup in March were clear.

Tammie doesn’t take a single moment for granted. She knows moms who will visit their children’s graves on Mother’s Day.

“So, every day, thank God for all your blessings. Be thankful he made you their mommy. Give all of your anxieties and troubles to him and take it one day at a time,” Tammie said.

“Always have hope.”
