Sheroo and Vispi Kanga support St. Jude

Sheroo Kanga and her husband, Vispi, are passionate about walking -- especially to support a cause they believe in. They have participated in the St. Jude Walk/Run for the last four years in addition to including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® in their will.

In 1975, the couple immigrated to the U.S. from India. When Vispi retired from his position as a researcher, they discovered walking for charitable causes was something they enjoyed.

“I was head of a team for another charity for more than 14 years, but they stopped doing their walks,” says Sheroo.

A new cause to walk for led them to St. Jude, and at the same time, the Kangas were also contemplating their estate plans when Vispi read about St. Jude and its lifesaving mission.

“We wanted a place where we know the money we give goes to the real cause,” he says.

Vispi notified St. Jude of their bequest gift and their St. Jude representative, Christina, contacted them. St. Jude representatives can answer questions for supporters considering a gift in their will to St. Jude and keep them updated on the hospital’s lifesaving work.

The couple, who are Parsi, have been very active in their local temple association for over 40 years.

Each year, Sheroo emails her many friends and neighbors to gather support for her walk to help children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

“I know too many people,” she says. “I get donations from all over the country. In 2021, I raised $11,000 all by myself.”

On the day of the walk, Vispi and Sheroo walk together in their community. They plan to host a garage party for their neighbors and participate in the traditional walk on the famous Seaside Heights Boardwalk on the Jersey Shore.

“I tell people about St. Jude all the time,” Sheroo says. “I just feel that a child shouldn’t die, and the best thing we can do is help find a cure and give them a second chance at life.”
