Chip and Joanna Gaines, the generous duo behind Magnolia Homes in Waco, Texas, have a storied history of kindness shown to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And now, Joanna is using a story to bestow even more.

Joanna's new book, The World Needs Who You Were Made to Be, is available just in time for the holidays. And from now until Dec. 14, a percentage from every book purchased on whoyouweremadetobe.com will go to St. Jude. The children’s book, illustrated by Julianna Swaney, is a story of creativity and acceptance.

The Gaineses are no strangers to the St. Jude mission. In 2017, they teamed up with St. Jude corporate partner Target to renovate the dining room at Target House, a long-term housing facility for patients and their families. The result was a recognizable Gaines masterpiece, and a place where families could rest, relax and fill up after difficult days. An associated social media fundraiser brought in $230,000, almost 10 times the goal of $25,000, and resulted in Chip having his head shaved to the delight of the patients on hand at the dining room unveiling.

Just last year, the “Chip in Challenge” called on celebrity supporters such as Jennifer Lopez, Florida Georgia Line and Drew Barrymore, among others, to help spread the kindness and raised $998,000 through social media. The couple and their Magnolia brand also built and donated a new playhouse for Target House, delivering it with a garden-themed party for the kids.

Joanna, a mother of five, writes in the introduction to the book: “May you always look at life with your eyes wide open. Be quick to learn from others and see and celebrate the differences in all of humanity. Be kind to others and to yourself.”

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the holiday season and all St. Jude does for kids around the world.
