Your donation during Diwali celebration makes an impact at St. Jude and around the world

Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped raise the survival rate for children with cancer in the United States, where 4 out of 5 children survive cancer. In many countries, however, 1 out of 5 children who develop cancer will survive. We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer, no matter where they live.

Meet Aditya

Adi was on vacation in India in December 2023 with his family when he started to feel sick. His parents took him to a doctor that prescribed medicines, but his fever persisted, which led to more tests at a local hospital. The tests led to a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a cancer of the bone and bone marrow.

Adi’s father, Bhargav, said in India his son, who was 4, got immediate care before they returned home to Tennessee. Adi began chemotherapy at a hospital near their home in January 2024. When doctors determined Adi would need further treatment, he was referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Adi remains in Memphis, where St. Jude is located. Bhargav said Adi is learning to not associate eating with nausea.

“The foods he used to like he doesn’t really like anymore,” he said.

Bhargav said coming to St. Jude lifted much of the burden he had been feeling over his son’s diagnosis and treatment. He said St. Jude doctors and staff have been available to him to answer questions and provide help when needed.

“[St. Jude] is hope and a blessing,” he said.

Adi is described as a brave and happy boy, who likes video games, Legos and walking around the hospital.

“He has given us strength to keep moving forward,” his dad said.
