Sustainability

The St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is a green event with a commitment to get greener. See what we're doing to decrease our carbon footprint.

Happy finisher lays on the grass.

From signs to flyers, we recycle printed paper material whenever possible. We also recycle at the finish line at AutoZone Park, including:

  • cardboard
  • aluminum
  • plastic
  • heat sheets*

*Special bins are available to discard your heat sheets for recycling. Watch for them near trash receptacles.

Donating

Clothes discarded on the course are picked up by our Green Team and donated to local thrift shops.

We donate uneaten post-race food to local soup kitchens, and unused on-course sports drinks are distributed to the Memphis Runners Track Club and other organizations who can utilize them.

We use water from fire hydrants at all of our hydration stations to reduce our reliance on bottled water. Staff and volunteers are provided with water bubblers and encouraged to bring refillable water bottles.

To reduce car emissions, shuttles are available to transport participants from downtown Memphis to the Landers Center for the expo.

Going digital

St. Jude Heroes receive interactive wristbands that grant access to a variety of event experiences, allowing us to eliminate more than 6,000 paper tickets.

While paper event guides and spectator guides remain available, participants, friends and family can access the event guide, spectator guide and other race-day resources online.
