A native of the area, Akeria has built and maintained meaningful public health relationships throughout Memphis and Shelby County through her extensive community engagement work. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health promotion from Arkansas State University and a master’s degree in public health from Southern New Hampshire University. With over seven years of experience in healthcare, project management, and program coordination, Akeria brings a wealth of knowledge to her role with the Memphis and Shelby County HPV Cancer Prevention Roundtable.
Akeria's expertise lies in creating and sustaining strong community partnerships and implementing culturally responsive health interventions. Her approach to community outreach is rooted in a deep commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs of the populations she serves. “Effective community outreach and coordination are about building trust and fostering collaboration,” Akeria explains. “By actively listening to community needs and engaging stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, we can create tailored solutions that resonate with and effectively support our community.”
In her role, Akeria plays a crucial part in advancing HPV vaccination efforts and improving health outcomes in the region. Her dedication to public health and her ability to navigate complex programmatic challenges have been instrumental in driving successful initiatives and fostering positive change.
Outside of her professional life, Akeria enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and her two Yorkies, Kash Louie and Nova, and capturing moments with her collection of cameras.
