Logan Schroeder began volunteering at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in August 2019 in the Imagine Room.
On a typical day, Schroeder gives out craft bags on inpatient floors and invites patients to a themed night in the Imagine Room. The Imagine Room is the location of many events such as movies and dance parties.
Schroeder has past volunteer experience with children, but he said he has always wanted to get involved in a hospital setting. With the drive to go to medical school, Schroeder wanted to gain experience at St. Jude.
“St. Jude has impacted me personally because of the impact this place has on a child’s life,” Schroeder said. “The patient’s worries can be alleviated here. It is such a fascinating concept.”
Schroeder’s time at St. Jude has opened him up to a volunteer leadership opportunity. As a volunteer leader of the Imagine Room, he gets to be a part of revamping the room by conducting patient and volunteer surveys.
“This leadership opportunity has allowed me to gain experience and take risks,” he said.
Schroeder says there is nothing more powerful than putting a smile on child’s face. The smallest volunteer gesture can make the biggest difference in a child and a family’s life, and nothing beats the experience Schroeder has had at St. Jude.
