Sergio Licona is a program coordinator, Infectious Diseases Transversal Program for the department of Global Pediatric Medicine. As Project Coordinator, Sergio is responsible for the design, coordination, implementation, and oversight of projects to ensure the success of Infectious Disease initiatives around the world.
He holds an M.D. degree from the National University of Honduras and an MBA in Healthcare Management from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Sergio has had advanced training in epidemiology and hospital administration.
Since early in his career, Sergio has experienced global healthcare environments as a primary care physician and in managerial roles in the medical non-profit field. He has served in several leadership positions in eastern Honduras, overseeing the healthcare services for about half a million people through 37 healthcare facilities, including outpatient clinics and hospitals.
His global experience includes the development of partnerships with international organizations and governments in the Latin American region. Sergio comes to St. Jude because of his passion for global initiatives to provide comprehensive healthcare services for vulnerable populations in challenging healthcare environments.
After work, Sergio is exploring the city, reading in local cafes, planning his next trip, hiking, or shopping in local markets.
