Madeline's story
Madeline’s dad describes her as fun, creative, and introspective. “She's very wise for her age. She always has been,” he said. “She's got a smile that will light up a whole room, and it's just a real pleasure to be around her all the time.”
When Madeline was 12 years old, her shoulder started bothering her. It seemed likely to be a pulled muscle; after all, she was on the swim team, and she carried a heavy backpack to and from school. But when she went for an X-ray, it showed a tumor in her upper chest.

Madeline was referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, arriving in March 2024, and diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. She underwent months of difficult treatment at St. Jude, with her parents by her side.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — so they can focus on helping their child live.
Madeline as a person is so resilient. She is so strong. I've been really amazed at how well she has taken this. I think, does she grieve it? Yes. Is she angry? Absolutely. But she has sort of taken the mindset of, I'm just going to put my head down and do what the doctors say and do what needs to be done because I can't change it.

Madeline took the attitude that treatment, and cancer, wouldn’t last forever.
She has now completed cancer treatment and returned home. She comes back to St. Jude for checkups.

St. Jude won't stop until no child — anywhere — dies from cancer.
