Devon was one of the youngest of the family. He and his three older brothers had always been active boys. In 2013, Devon’s family was devastated to learn he suffered from a cancerous tumor.
At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, his treatment included chemotherapy, radiation therapy, a natural killer (NK) cell transplant and an antibody treatment.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all they should worry about is helping their child live.
“St. Jude has provided so much for all of us,” said Devon’s mom at the time. “The support is incredible, you know people care.”
Despite everything Devon had been through, he remained upbeat.
I can go through this with a smile or a frown, and I’d rather go through it with a smile.
