During the hospital’s annual Halloween celebration, patients and their families take part in the festivities with costumed superheroes, cartoon characters and famous icons.
During this favorite holiday tradition at St. Jude, doctors, researchers and staff get decked out in creative costumes and set up elaborate backdrops to offer patients a memorable day with trick or treating, photos and smiles.
St. Jude Child Life Program staff hosts the Halloween event each year. “This event gives our patients and their siblings an opportunity to trick-or-treat on Halloween in a safe and fun environment. It’s a way they can participate in a childhood tradition that they might miss because of treatment,” says Shawna Grissom, director of Child Life. It also gives their siblings an opportunity to share this memory with brothers and sisters.”
