On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, students at Evert Tennis Academy will do more than play tennis. They will play to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: Finding cures. Saving children.®

Chris Evert & The Evert Tennis Academy

Chris Evert is a former world ranked, Number 1 tennis player and 18 time Grand Slam winner. She has raised millions of dollars for the Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida, which focuses on easing drug abuse and child neglect and created the Chris Evert (now Salah Foundation) Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In 1996, Chris, her brother John and their father Jimmy established the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida. The Evert Tennis Academy quickly became, and continues to be, the home to countless national and international junior players, best college players and some of the world's finest pros. By combining the experience of a champion with world-class coaching, cutting-edge training methods and premier facilities the Evert Tennis Academy is able to offer unrivaled programs for players of all ages and abilities.

Annie & Sam's Story

Today, Sam has completed treatment and is attending his junior year of college at the University of Denver. Annie created the Game, Set, Cure Childhood Cancer tennis tournament in his honor. While Sam was not treated at St. Jude, she wants to support all families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis.

About the Tournament

Evert Academy celebrates health, fitness and excellence. But for some kids who are diagnosed with cancer, their dreams get put on hold and they can't play sports or do the things they love. Game, Set, Cure was created in spirit of the values established at Evert Tennis Academy: excellence, resilience, leadership and integrity. It's one thing to play tennis, but it's another to know you are saving lives while doing it.

In 2021, Game, Set, Cure proved that tennis can be fun and competitive but also a meaningful way to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude. “It just made so much sense that we're kids, being able to play for other kids who aren't as fortunate as we are to be able to play tennis, and do the things that they love," said Annie in a St. Jude Inspire article.

Coming off last year's success, Annie is hoping to make this year's tournament a Grand Slam with a goal to raise $100,000 for St. Jude! Although love means nothing in tennis, it means so much to the families and patients of St. Jude.
